Our 2017-2018 Annual Report has been published!
The Institute of Transportation Engineers at the University of California, Berkeley, commonly known as Cal ITE, is an organization dedicated to fostering interest and providing opportunities in transportation engineering, planning and related fields.
A Brief History
UC Berkeley students Gabriel Ho, Grace Lin, Kimberly Leung, Marin Odioso, and Mariana Parreiras, establish a chapter of the Institute of Transportation Engineers.
2017Cal ITE builds on years of sustained growth, creating the Cal Transportation Team and holding a record number of events with corporate partners.

In the past, we've invited speakers from:
- Fehr and Peers
- Kimley Horn and Associates
- Alta Planning + Design
- Bicycle Solutions
- Transportation Sustainability Research Center
- Parsons Corp.
- AC Transit
We organize field trips to projects and offices in the Bay Area to get a first-hand look at the field of transportation.
In the past, field trips have included:
- Oakland Airport Connector
- BART Warm Springs Extension
- Presidio Parkway
- CalTrans Offices
- SFMTA Offices
- SFO Traffic Control Tower
- Fehr & Peers Offices
- AC Transit Hydrogen Refueling Station
- Bike Tour Around SF
- AutoCAD Workshop at Arup in SF
Student Leadership Summit
Usually held in the winter, this is a multi-day conference run by an ITE student chapter and designed for students. It is an excellent opportunity to meet other students from across the Western US who are also interested in transportation. There are social events, professional development activities, and seminars on transportation topics.
Cal ITE will host SLS in 2019; we are still in the early stages of planning but we will post updates as we progress, so stay tuned!
Western ITE Annual Meeting
Usually held in the summer, this is a multi-day conference put on by the Western District of ITE, which covers all student and professional chapters of ITE in the Western United States. This is an excellent opportunity to network with transportation professionals and learn about the state of transportation practice and research.
A large part of the Western ITE Meeting is the Kell Competition which Cal ITE hosted in 2017. The Kell Competition involved building a traffic-related game for the other conference attendees. Cal's Kell Competition game was based off the game Rush Hour.
Cal ITE has also gotten involved in community events and philanthropic events to help the broader Berkeley community. In 2018, Cal ITE got involved in Berkeley's E4K (Engineering for Kids) event in which Cal ITE provided materials, instruction, and inspiration to kids about building Rube-Goldberg machines.
As part of an effort to build new connections throughout the industry and the Berkeley community. Cal ITE has also partnered up with multiple organizations to both provide our members with more opportunities, along with introduce students in other fields to the field of transportation.
