A Brief History

2008

UC Berkeley students Gabriel Ho, Grace Lin, Kimberly Leung, Marin Odioso, and Mariana Parreiras establish a chapter of the Institute of Transportation Engineers.

2017

Cal ITE builds on years of sustained growth, creating the Cal Transportation Team and holding a record number of events with corporate partners.

2019

UC Berkeley hosted a very successful 2019 Western ITE Student Leadership Summit from January 25th to January 27th.



What Do We Do?

Meetings

Cal ITE frequently holds meetings featuring speakers from various transportation firms and agencies. These meetings serve as an excellent opportunity for members to learn about the projects that transportation professionals work on and to network with those in the field.

Field Trips

Cal ITE frequently brings its members on field trips to project sites and offices in the Bay Area to get a first-hand look into the field of transportation.

Student Leadership Summit

Usually held in the winter, this is a multi-day conference run by an ITE student chapter and designed for students. It is an excellent opportunity to meet other students from across the Western US who are also interested in transportation. There are social events, professional development activities, and seminars on transportation topics.

Cal ITE successfully hosted SLS in 2019!

Western ITE Annual Meeting

Usually held in the summer, this is a multi-day conference put on by the Western District of ITE, which covers all student and professional chapters of ITE in the Western United States. This is an excellent opportunity to network with transportation professionals and learn about the state of transportation practice and research.

A large part of the Western ITE Meeting is the Kell Competition which Cal ITE hosted in 2017. The Kell Competition involved building a traffic-related game for the other conference attendees. Cal's Kell Competition game was based off the game Rush Hour.

Philanthropy

Cal ITE has been involved in community events and philanthropic events to help the broader Berkeley community. In 2018, Cal ITE participated in Berkeley's E4K (Engineering for Kids) event in which Cal ITE provided materials, instruction, and inspiration to kids about building Rube-Goldberg machines.

Building Partnerships

As part of an effort to build new connections throughout the industry and the Berkeley community, Cal ITE has partnered up with multiple organizations to both provide our members with more opportunities, along with introduce students in other fields to the field of transportation.
